Overview

Mentalk Health Sittingbourne is a mens mental health charity based in Sittingbourne, dedicated to giving men a safe and welcoming space to talk about what they are going through. Through weekly meetups, they bring men together in an environment free from judgment, where real conversations can happen and genuine support is always on hand. AVRS Media were invited to capture one of their gatherings as the official photographers, documenting the people, the atmosphere and the community that Mentalk Health has worked hard to build.

The challenge

Photography in a mental health setting requires a great deal of sensitivity. The men attending Mentalk Health Sittingbourne come to feel comfortable and supported, not to be photographed. The challenge was to capture the warmth, connection and human moments of the meetup in a way that felt completely natural and never intrusive. The images needed to reflect the genuine spirit of the charity without making anyone feel uncomfortable or on show.

The solution

The AVRS Media team took a calm, unobtrusive approach throughout the day, blending into the environment and letting moments happen organically. The result was a set of warm, authentic images that genuinely reflect what Mentalk Health Sittingbourne is about. From small group conversations to the broader atmosphere of the meetup, every photograph was taken with care and respect for the people in it. Mentalk Health now have a library of powerful visuals that tell their story honestly and help spread awareness of the vital work they do for mens mental health across Sittingbourne.
